Common questions

Are the TMUA grade boundaries official?

UAT-UK has not published a conversion table since taking the test over in 2024, and the current scoring uses an item-response model in which the mapping from raw marks to grades varies between sittings. The conversion on this page is curated from 400 data points. The 2023 table is the official published conversion for that sitting.

What is a good TMUA score?

UAT-UK states the scale is designed so that typical candidates score around 4.5, and roughly 10% of candidates score above 7.0. In the published October 2025 and January 2026 distribution, 9.2% of candidates scored 7.0 or higher.

How is the TMUA marked?

Two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions, 40 marks in total. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The raw mark out of 40 is converted to a single overall score on a scale from 1.0 to 9.0, reported to one decimal place.

Why is the 2023 table so different?

The two agree closely above 33 marks but diverge sharply below it, by as much as 2.5 grades. The TMUA changed administrator and scoring model in 2024, so the 2023 conversion no longer describes how the current test is scored.
